2018 Annual Refresher Training

The 2018 Annual Refresher Training is a course developed by subject matter experts across UW Medicine to meet regulatory requirements, highlight safety issues or explain any changes in policies and procedures.

This course is required of all workforce members who have not attended New Employee Orientation (NEO) in 2018. Additionally, UW Medicine Neighborhood Clinics workforce members must complete both NEO and the online 2018 Annual Refresher Training.

The online training is hosted on the UW Medicine LMS and assigned to workforce members with a UW Medicine account.  To take the course, use the following link.

2018 Annual Refresher Training Alternate Version

(Formerly known as the “Paper Version” or the “Paper Training”)

Overview

Some workforce members are required to take the 2018 Annual Refresher Training but do not have access to the LMS. This could be because the workforce members do not have UW Medicine accounts (a requirement for access to the LMS) or because they do not have access to computers at their work locations.

I am a manager and I have a learner that cannot log into the LMS to complete the training. What do I need to do?

Managers of learners that cannot take the training within the LMS will provide the alternate version in one of two ways:

  • For UW Medicine Workforce Members: For UW Medicine employees who require an accommodation (e.g. learners without ready access to a UW Medicine computer, etc.) the manager must log into the LMS and present the eLearning course as an instructor-led course.

    Launch the UW Medicine LMS

When the training is complete, the manager must send a confirmation to the learning management contact:

The confirmation must contain the following information:

      • New Title:  2018 Annual Refresher Training Alternate Delivery
      • Workforce members full name (First and Last)
      • Workforce members EID or workforce members LMS user name
      • Completion date
      • A statement from the manager explaining that the employee completed the training through the alternate delivery method.

  • For Non-UW Medicine Workforce Members (e.g. volunteers): For learners that do not have a UW Medicine account, but who are required to complete the training, an external electronic version of the course can be found here.

When the course is complete, print the final slide, and the manager will retain it for your department’s records.

Yes, you will need to complete the course for the current calendar year.

If I attended new employee orientation this year, why don’t I have to take this Annual Refresher training?

New Employee Orientation (NEO) provides new employees with our most up-to-date regulatory and safety information. Annual Refresher Training is designed to update current employees on an annual basis with the same information presented at NEO. For most workforce members, NEO attendance meets the same training requirements as the Annual Refresher Training for the current year.

NOTE: UW Medicine Neighborhood Clinics training requirements are an exception; new hires at UW Medicine Neighborhood Clinics will attend NEO and complete the online 2018 Annual Refresher Training.

I attended New Employee Orientation (NEO) but the Annual Refresher Training still shows in my TO DO list. What do I need to do?

If you attended NEO, your attendance meets the same training requirements met by Annual Refresher Training.  Please allow for two weeks for the NEO training to be entered into the LMS.  If, after two weeks, the training is still showing on your TO DO list, please contact odtreg@uw.edu.

Alternate Version FAQ

What is the alternate version?

The Annual Refresher Training has historically included an alternate delivery method for learners requiring an accommodation (e.g. learners with limited access to workstations) or learners lacking UW Medicine accounts.
Prior to 2018, a PDF document that contained the text of the course either was given to the learner to review or was presented to the learner by the local manager.  This was referred to as the “paper version.”

What happened to the “paper version?”

Developing the paper version was resource-intensive and led to inconsistencies and errors between the two versions. In order to ensure the consistency and reliability of the content, the paper version will no longer be used.

Who should take the alternate version of the training?

Workforce members who are required to take the 2018 Annual Refresher Training but do not have access to the UW Medicine LMS. This could be because the workforce member does not have a UW Medicine account (a requirement for access to the LMS), or the workforce member does not have access to a computer at their work location.

What is the managers/supervisors role when processing the alternate version of the training?

Managers are responsible for ensuring that workforce members who are required to take the 2018 Refresher Training complete either the online version in the UW Medicine LMS or the alternate version.  Managers will be expected to validate completion, and verify that the workforce members understand the content of the 2018 Annual Refresher Training.
